Koʻolau Watershed Monitoring Project

Nā Moku was awarded a grant in 2020 help our community members that were unemployed or underemployed due to the COVID pandemic. We were able to give our people an opportunity to provide for their families, clear streams from the overgrowth of invasive species, learn how to measure the volume of water in our kahawai (river), and test the quality of water (pH, Salinity, Density, Temperature, and Turbidity) we have in our kahawai as well as the water entering and exiting our lo’i. We had two crews running simultaneously to cover the whole Koʻolau.

We would like to mahalo Inflatable Films for coming out to film and create this beautiful story of our project. Mahalo to Maui Nui Marine Resource Council for giving us the opportunity to get back into our watershed to mālama our ʻaina. I also want to mahalo Maui County OED for working hard to get us funded so that we could do what we needed to do.

Ke’anae Uka

Ke’anae Uka is a 9 acre parcel that is located on the top of the Ke’anae Peninsula. Since 2020, members and supporters mobilized to clean and remove accumulated trash on the grounds and in the buildings, maintain grounds, clean the buildings and have done continuous upgrades to the grounds and facilities. Currently, Nā moku is striving and working together as a community to restore Ke’anae Uka in its rightful condition. Ke’anae Uka is a community camp ground and events facility for hosting and providing resources to the people of Maui and our island visitors.
